Braille and Tactile Signage
Braille and Tactile Signage
Common issues
- Signs installed on door when wall spaces are not available.
- Signs installed on walls with similar colour (no border or contrast)
- Nominated sign height does not consider single lines of tactile/Braille text height i.e., Between 1250 - 1350 FFL (recommended prototype install for approval prior to full install).
- Incorrect content: recessed not raised symbols/text, “insert Braille here” instead of equivalent text in Braille.
- Braille being incorrect to LH or RH
Design
Facilities must be identified using raised text, braille, and symbols if required. The identification must:
- Height - 1200 mm and 1600 mm above finished floor level
- Text height 1250 - 1350 FFL
- White on a blue background.
